Emotional Expansiveness
Emotional expansiveness reflects a person's attitude toward other group members and is calculated as the emotional expansiveness index (Ej). It characterizes an individual's need for communication:

where Ej is the emotional expansiveness of the j-term, Rj+ is the number of positive choices made, Rj- is the number of rejections made, and Ξ£ is the absolute sum (ignoring the sign). Unlike the sociometric index, the emotional expansiveness index is always positive.
From a psychological perspective, the expansiveness index characterizes an individual's need for communication.
